Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Auditorium Theatre 06/27/76 Thanks CM!

Vocal harmonies are one of the great qualities of 1976 - 1978 GD performances.

After the Summer of 1974 fun in Des Moines on 06/16/74 and the International Amphitheatre show on 07/25/74 we were perplexed as to what the future would hold; ugly rumours indeed.

The Auditorium Theatre run in late June 1976 more than made up for lost time and kept a close place in my heart as did the May 1977 performances here and the killer shows at The Uptown in 1978.

This evening, 06/27/76 we had one back-stage pass to share between the four of us. My turn came-up during the beginning of "Looks Like Rain" so i wandered over to the stage left floor door, no one was there, opened the door and climbed the stairs to the stage level, turned left and there i was standing between the stack of PA speakers watching Bob & Donna do their stuff with a cinemascope view of the audience.

Eventually a crew member walked by and didn't say a word. After the number ended, Donna walked by, said hey, and then eventually wandered back on stage.

It was a lil weird because i was a bit nervous but everything was so loose and relaxed back there, in that moment it calmed me down and chose to stay for one more number.

However, deep into the second set i returned to that stage left floor door and some large burly dude crossed his arms, shook his head and said; later!

I guess by that juncture in the performance they were not only wise to our shenanigan's but were protecting the womb of the stage for some other nefarious reason perhaps.
